Document AI for law firms and in-house legal teams
In short
RootNia lets law firms and in-house legal teams query their document base — contracts, filings, rulings, legal opinions and correspondence — in plain language. It classifies every document by sector and type, retrieves the relevant passages with RAG and returns answers that cite the exact clause or paragraph. It can run on-premise or in a dedicated VPC to protect client confidentiality.

The problem: a firm’s knowledge lives in documents, not databases
A firm’s expertise accumulates in negotiated contracts, filed submissions, opinions and rulings. Finding “the last time we negotiated a non-compete clause with a technology supplier” depends on people’s memory or keyword searches that return hundreds of results.
Pasting those documents into a generic chatbot is not an option: it raises confidentiality concerns and the answers do not cite the exact source.
How RootNia solves it
- Connection without migration: the orchestrator connects SharePoint, OneDrive and the databases where matters already live.
- Automatic classification: every document is identified as a contract, filing, ruling, opinion or correspondence and linked to its sector.
- Answers with citations: RAG retrieves the relevant passages and VERA anchors every extraction to its page and region, so the lawyer can verify the source before relying on it.
- Consensus across models: for sensitive extractions, MOSAIC cross-checks several specialized models and reconciles their output.
Common use cases
- Searching internal precedents and standard clauses.
- Summarizing long matters before a meeting or hearing.
- Comparing contract versions.
- Due diligence: finding change-of-control, warranty or expiry provisions across large contract sets.
Example: finding a clause across hundreds of contracts
Illustrative example of how it works, not a specific customer.
A lawyer asks: “Which technology supplier contracts include a change-of-control clause, and what consequence do they set?”
- RootNia filters the documents classified as contracts within the scope that user is authorized to see.
- RAG retrieves the change-of-control clauses from each contract.
- MOSAIC cross-checks the extraction with several models and reconciles the result.
- The answer lists the contracts, summarizes each clause and links to its page and paragraph, so the lawyer can validate every case.
Getting started
- Narrow scope first: a practical start is one practice area or one document type, expanding afterwards.
- Confidentiality: if matters cannot leave your environment, the Enterprise plan supports on-prem or dedicated VPC deployment (3–9 weeks depending on sources).
- Access: the Business plan includes SSO SAML 2.0 and Enterprise adds SCIM for automatic provisioning and deprovisioning.
Confidentiality by design
RootNia is designed to help you comply with GDPR: every retrieval is logged, access is tier-based and on-premise or dedicated VPC deployment is available. See how it compares with using ChatGPT or Claude directly.
Frequently asked questions
Can it be used for contract review?
Yes. RootNia finds specific clauses (limitation of liability, term, penalties, governing law) in your own and third-party contracts, and every result links to the source page thanks to VERA. The legal assessment remains the lawyer's.
Can documents stay inside our infrastructure?
Yes. With the on-prem or dedicated VPC deployment of the Enterprise plan, documents never leave your trusted environment. If you connect an external LLM, also review that provider's data-use terms.
Can access be separated by client or matter?
Documents are organized into access tiers from ingestion and access control follows that tier. Every retrieval is logged, so you can audit who queried what and which document grounded each answer.
